Our Story

McGregor & Young was started in 2017 by Tasmanians living in South Australia while visiting friends in Norway. The distillery takes its name from its founders. Originally intended as a cocktail bar in Latvia, practicalities intervened and the plan shifted to a world-class distillery.

Our intent is to produce the highest quality of spirits, for ourselves first and then for anyone else who is interested. We stand for absolute quality as the foundation of everything we do. From there, we enjoy an amount of chaos in life and seek to imprint that on what we produce. Balance within chaos or chaos within balance. We produce to our own tastes and are our harshest critics. Our spirits are designed to enrich moods or enliven situations we find ourselves in. They fit a profile we hadn’t found elsewhere.

Our distillery draws on Tasmanian and South Australian influence, but is not intended to be a product of where we are from. We’ve taken on elements from places we have traveled and people we have met and will continue to develop that into our brand.


Our first spirit release in 2023 is our flagship gin, Temperance. Our second gin, Misery, is set to follow come summer this year.
